Our Process

Option #1: Pre-Built Custom Mountain Bike Ready to Ride

Purchase one of our pre-built custom mountain bikes ready to go. If there are components which you would like changed out to other components, ie: length of bars, stem, chainring size, tires/wheels, seat/post etc, we will be happy to do this. You can pay for this in full when it is ready to ship. You can also pick up your bike to save on shipping costs.

Option #2: Frame-Up Custom Build from One of our In-Stock Frames

Frame-Up Custom Build from one of our in-stock frames. Select your brand, model and size and then review and finalize component selection (Payment schedule for "Option #2" is the same as for "Option #3" below).

Option #3 Full Custom Build Per Your Specifications

Step 1: In these modern times this feels kinda old school but simply email Dave at info@northernmotiongear.com. Tell him your ideas for the build, any preferences, favorite builds we've done, other inspirations, budget restraints, etc.

Step 2: Based on your input, Dave will make some suggestions.

Step 3: If you're okay with that direction, place your order and we’ll begin working on your estimate.

What's Next

From there, we'll make a payment and build schedule. We'll set an initiation date on which your first installment (one third of the total build estimate) will be due.

Feel free to contact Dave with any questions. We know it's a lot to consider, but it's kind of a big deal! We think you'll be stoked with the process, and more importantly, the finished product.

What about the Benjamins

By now you’re starting to visualize your custom mountain bike in your head, and it’s pretty damn exciting, isn’t it? We understand, but first, a healthy dose of reality. You are buying a custom mountain bike. It's a big-ticket item. You can pay for it all at once up front, or we’ll break it up into 4 payments of 10% (the 10% deposit is credited towards balance), 30%, 30% and 30%. Easy peasy.

Payments

Our payment schedule is very simple. After our initial discussions/meetings, and sign-off on estimate, a 10% deposit will be due to hold your spot. At the start date of your project another 30% payment will be due. Once the frame is built up with crank, fork, brakes, wheels/tires we collect the 2nd payment of 30%. The final 30% payment, plus any remaining balance, will be due at completion of your build. The mountain bike must be paid in full prior to being released. Payments are all due within 5 business days of billing. We have multiple payment options, Pay Pal, charge card etc. Please note that any checks must be cleared by the bank before the bike is shipped or released.

You can probably tell these stipulations are based on past experiences. We don’t want to sound like bankers, but we need to make sure we’re all on the same ledger page.

Shipping:

We use Bike Flights for all bike shipping. Your bike will be professional packaged in a bike box and shipped fully insured to you. You will receive a tracking numner as soon as it is shipped. You can also pick up your bike to save on shipping costs.
