Welcome!

Hi, I’m Scott.

I embarked on a planned journey to get better at mountain biking. After getting into biking a few years back, I really wanted to get the physics of body position and technical skills down solid. Simultaneously, I wanted to learn about the mechanics of modern mountain bikes so I could fix mine and maintain it appropriately.

So I got started. But first…

The goal: The peak of this journey was to cleanly send A-line at Whistler top to bottom as the pinnacle of my bucket list.

What happened: I got to roughly 90% of my objective. I didn’t quite make it to 100%, but I learned that’s ok! Normally I would not leave something 10% undone, but I have to look at risk vs. reward and at this point in my life I’m happily settling with 90%.

The primary reason is that my progress came to a screeching halt with my unexpected crash I had about 10 months into it. I broke my collarbone in 6 big pieces (12 tiny pieces), 3 of my upper ribs, my thumb in 2 pieces and had to get stitches in my chin. This long recovery is not what will set me back from adding to my epic sends list, but the realization that maybe I do not need to go so hard at this point. Ha!

However, in the lead up, I disassembled my working bike all the way to the frame one piece at a time. I also built it back up. I had several oh s*#! moments, a couple of lost bits in the yard (I work in my yard) and had to buy some tools. Overall, I learned a ton and it was definitely worth it.

Below I show you the bike, the tools, a video of each step along the way and what I learned. Your situation may differ unless you have my bike, but the overall concepts should help you do this yourself. I’m not a mechanic or an expert rider. That will be obvious if you watch my videos. 🙂

Enjoy and I wish you well on the trails!!
